Design & Manufacturing, based in Austin, TX, is an experiential design agency comprised of architects, designers, fabricators, and tech nerds who build beautiful, engaging experiences for all kinds of brands all over the world.

We are growing our Design team and are seeking candidates with backgrounds in Industrial Design and Architecture who are looking to apply their talents toward building physical experience for some of the top brands in the world. Our designers work closely with agencies and brands to develop custom experiential concepts for props, backdrops, kiosks, trade show booths, and “pop-up” experiences.

This job ad is for multiple hires that are part-time/contract and based at our Austin, Texas office. Whether you're available 20 hours a week, 5 hours a week, or just ad-hoc available to work on special projects when the need arises, WE NEED YOU!

Skills Needed

Creativity: You’ll need to look at existing products and determine how they could work or look better—see beyond the current reality to what’s possible. You’ll also weigh in on the functionality of new “products” in development. Anticipating consumers’ needs and how they will attempt to use the product is a big part of being an industrial designer.

Technical Skill: Our designers work with an array of digital technology to complete their projects. Expertise in CAD software is essential, along with an understanding of the materials and fabrication techniques that are used by our teams in the shop.

Teamwork: Whether you are working and communicating with your customer or with other members of the design team, effectively collaborating with others is necessary to succeed on our team.

Job Responsibilities

  • Working with clients to determine the project requirements
  • Brainstorming ideas and creating digital models
  • Designing “products” and temporary buildings with the needs and wants of a specific audience in mind
  • Creating drawings either by sketching or using CAD software that conveys design intent
  • Working with design technology
  • Collaborating with the fabrication team
  • Participating in product testing
  • Determining whether a design is practical by gauging product safety and function
  • Assessing material selection and finishes


Job Requirements

  • At least 3-5 years of experience as a practicing industrial/architectural designer
  • Fluent in 3D CAD software such as Rhino, SketchUp, Solid Works, Revit
  • Knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite - Photoshop, Illustrator
  • Ability to work in the Austin office is a plus
  • Ability to produce technical shop drawings for hand off to fabrication
  • A basic knowledge of fabrication techniques
